The role of judgement in The Outsider :: English Literature
The role of judgement in The Outsider The actions of Meursault, the protagonist in The Outsider by Albert Camus, are characterized by irrationality. For example, there is no clear logical reason for his decision to marry Marie or to kill the Arab. ââ¬Å"That evening, Marie came round for me and asked me if I wanted to marry her. I said I didnââ¬â¢t mind and we could do if she wanted toâ⬠(Camus 44). However, the idea that things sometimes happen for no reason is disturbing and threatening to society, because, as a logical conclusion from that, individual existence could have happened for no reason and would therefore be purposeless. Hence, society always attempts to find logical reasons for everything. In this novel, society superimposes its rational nature upon Meursaultââ¬â¢s irrational character, which has the consequence of society making judgements upon Meursault that are false, because the judgements do not agree with his irrational personality. The prosecutorââ¬â¢s speech and the meetings between the magistrate and Meursault will be used as examples to show this. Before getting into them, it must be explained that the prosecutor and the magistrate both symbolize society, since they are part of the court, which stands for society as a whole. The idea of a court already represents very much society, since the law functions as the will of the people, and the jury sits in judgement on behalf of the entire community. But Camus clearly emphasizes upon this image of ââ¬Å"court-as-societyâ⬠in this novel by making almost all of the characters from the first half reappear to witness in the trial: The warden and the caretaker from the home, Thomas Pà ©rez, Raymond, Masson, Salamano, Marie and Cà ©leste. First of all, the fact that the prosecutor interprets Meursaultââ¬â¢s irrational action of killing the Arab in a rational way shows that society imposes its rational character upon Meursaultââ¬â¢s irrational personality. ââ¬Å"[Meursault retelling the prosecutorââ¬â¢s argument] Iââ¬â¢d asked him for his gun. Iââ¬â¢d gone back with the intention of using it. Iââ¬â¢d shot the Arab as Iââ¬â¢d planned. Iââ¬â¢d waited. And ââ¬Ëto make sure Iââ¬â¢d done the job properlyââ¬â¢, Iââ¬â¢d fired four more shots, deliberately and at point-blank range and with some kind of forethoughtâ⬠(96). The prosecutor provides here a rational explanation for Meursaultââ¬â¢s murder of the Arab, that is, he explains how every step that lead to the murder was planned by Meursault. However, nothing in Meursaultââ¬â¢s narrative explains why he shot the Arab (let alone that there would be evidence in his narrative that he planned the murder), which suggests that there is no rational explanation for his action. Thus, the fact that the prosecutor, who represents society, interprets here Meursaultââ¬â¢s

Challenges Faced by a Country for Economic Development Essay
An economy is flourishing and is shown to be beneficial and fruitful for the people living in it only when the growth of the economy goes up continuously. It is essential for a country to not only develop politically or socially but it also needs to demonstrate economic development in order to sustain in the international market and in order to come ahead of other countries. But it is not very easy for any economy to economically keep growing because an umpteen number of internal and external factors that affect the growth and the economic development and it is essential and crucial for the countries to address the issues and move ahead. There are some very common challenges that are faced by an economy that are discussed below. The presence of external imbalances in the global economy is one of the most influential causes that impose a challenge on the economic development of any country. There can be reasons such as political disruptions, changes in import-export scenario or foreign currency reserve changes that can lead to imbalance in a country that is external to an economy. But the disruptions taking place in one country can adversely affect the economy and economic growth of other countries as well. The monetary and fiscal policies adopted by the government of an economy also have a huge role to play in the economic development. These policies tend to impact the interest rates, money supply and foreign exchange rates of an economy and if the policies are not in the favor of the growth, they can become major challenges and major issues all over the country. Read more: Essay About Disadvantages of Population The change in trade situations can also affect the economies. Exports of a country help it in generating external revenues while imports can be done for different purposes such as facilitation of a manufacturing process, providing basic necessities to the people etc. And hence if there is an imbalance in the external trade that is taking place in a country, it can lead to severe turbulence and can adversely impact the economic growth. Other economic factors such as poverty, inflation rate, population also are dependent on an economy and also impact the economy. If a nation has higher level of poverty, it is more likely to have economic challenges and similarly high population is not desired and not advisable for high economic growth. And that is the reason why the governments usually try to avoid these unfavorable situations and try to maintain a balance in the countries by different measures. There are many more reasons why the economies face severe challenge of demonstrating growth and hence it is crucial for the countries to adopt different and new policies in order to avoid these challenges and facilitate growth. Skechers advert Essays
Skechers advert Essays Skechers advert Paper Skechers advert Paper The Live advert takes up the whole page apart from the border at the bottom with the company name, Schwarzkopf on it. The effect of this is that they want the company name to stand out as well as the product and to be separate from the product.Ã The Skechers advert takes up the whole page, the effect of this is that they want the whole advert to stand out.Ã The Live advert is in colour. The advert needs to be in colour so then people would know what the product looks like. If this advert wasnt in colour then nobody would go out and buy it. The advert is in colour because its selling hair colour and the company needs to show us what the colour looks like. The Skechers advert is in colour so you can seethe different colour trainers, also adverts need to be in colour so it can stands out and catch your attention.Ã In both of the adverts they have shown us a picture of the product that they are selling so we can see what it looks like.Ã In the Live advert it has pictures of the packaging, so if you want to buy it you know what it looks like.Ã They havent shown the packaging in the Skechers advert, but the packaging would be a shoebox and you dont need a picture to show it.Ã The name of the first advert is Live this would imply that the hair colour would make your hair seem alive because it would be really shiny and glossy. The name of the second advert is, Skechers USA this would imply that the company who makes these trainers are from the USA.Ã Both of the adverts I have chosen tell a story. The live adverts story is two girls in the cinema; one girl has dyed her hair red. There are two boys at the back who are looking at the girls.Ã The Skechers advert story is a group of friends having fun, smiling and enjoying them selves.Ã The story of each advert helps promote the product because you want to be like them. You want to be like the girl in the Live advert because the boys are attracted to her.Ã You want to be like the girl in the Skechers advert because she looks like she is having fun.Ã The relationship between the two girls in the Live advert is that they are friends. Also the two boys look like they are good friends.Ã The girl in the Live advert has really shiny hair, she is also wearing a shiny top to make her stand out from everybody else.Ã Everyone in the Skechers advert are wearing casual clothes, this would mean that the trainers would suit any type of clothes. All the people in Skechers advert seem to be richer, because they are all wearing expensive clothes and trainers.Ã The people in the Live advert dont seem to be that rich because hair dye is cheaper than trainers are and they are at the cinema, which isnt very expensive.Ã The characters in the adverts are the people the target audience wants to be like, because they look like they are enjoying them selves.Ã The Live advert has an advert shown on the television, but selling different hair colours as well as the one on this advert. There are a few adverts that Ive seen selling Skechers trainers, in one of them they have used celebrity endorsement, this means they pay a celebrity to advertise their product. In this case they have used Britney Spears.Ã I found the Live advert and the Skechers advert in a Bliss magazine.Ã Both of the adverts fit into this magazine because, they are trying to sell to teenagers so they put the advert in a magazine that teenagers read. Its no point putting the adverts into a gardening magazine because gardeners arent the target audience. The target audience for the Live advert is for teenage girls aged between fifteen and twenty-four.The target audience for the Skechers trainers is for teenage girls aged between thirteen and twenty-nine.Ã The Live advert is trying to sell us the product using attractive people and romance because the boys are attracted to the girls, so if you get this product then boys would be attracted to you.Ã In conclusion: I think that the Live advert is good because its got a lot of information in it.Ã The Skechers advert is good because they look like they are having fun and makes you buy it because you want to have fun. I would buy both of the adverts but if I had to chose one I would chose the Live advert because it persuaded me the most.Ã I didnt chose the Skechers advert because there are so many trainers on the market to chose from also I didnt think the advert pursued me the most.Ã I think both of the adverts would appeal to the target audience because it appealed to me, so if its good enough for me its good enough for anyone else.
